Artist Residency in Pouch Cove
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I spent the month of September in Pouch Cove as one of the artists in residence, in the stellar company of Monica Tap, Lisa Johnston, Mara Korkola, Kara McIntosh, and Holly Friesen. All of this is made possible by the generosity and organizational skills of James Baird of the James Baird Gallery.
James Baird couldn’t have been more attentive and helpful, whether introducing me to clients, visiting the studio, loaning you his car, hosting all of us at his stunning home, or dropping off that extra bottle of red because you’re out. He is knowledgeable about art, Newfoundland, history, as well as having a terrific sense of humour. We were treated like gold in beautiful spacious studios with wonderful light. (This was particularly meaningful to me, who usually paints in a basement studio).
I was in awe of my surroundings, bolstered by the company of five other excellent, committed, and talented artists. The staff at the residency were also so welcoming and helpful. I can’t say enough about the entire experience.
It’s hard to get across how beautiful Pouch Cove and St. John’s are, but if you’ve been, you know. Below is a small selection of photos I took in September, just to give a bit of a feeling.
Thanks for reading. I’m sure I’ll be looking back at the wonderful month I spent at the residency for years to come.
